John’s sister-in-law, Sue Van Winkle Neubert of Dormont, Pennsylvania, writes  that “sad news dampened our Christmas this year--my sister Gretchen's husband John P.K. Miller died unexpectedly December 12th . . . He never got over her death, which occurred nearly ten years ago, and I'm sure he thinks he got the best Christmas present ever!  Dale and I had a wonderful relationship with John and Gretchen.  She was my only sibling and we were extremely close.  We always felt one of the nicest happenings in our lives was the fact that when we married, our husbands became best friends.”

Larry Edward Larson
(1939-2008)
Husband of Barbara Mohney Larson

WEB_Larson_Aug2007_foxburg.jpg
Larry and Barb Larson, August 2007, Allegheny River near Parker, Pennsylvania

Larry Edward Larson was born to Thomas and Ethel Larson on April 01, 1939 in Falls Creek, Pennsylvania.  He was one of nine children and spent a very happy childhood hunting and fishing throughout western Pennsylvania.  He met his wife Barbara in 1952 through his sister Jeanne, and the two were married in July of 1960.  Following his graduation from Pennsylvania State University in 1961 (he was a very proud Nittany Lion), Larry and Barbara and their young son, David, moved to Southern California to get away from the snowy winters and for Larry to begin a teaching career.  His three daughters Laura, Tricia, and Katherine were born once the family was settled in Orange County.  After teaching for two very long years, he found his calling in computer engineering and spent the next 42 years working in the aerospace industry.

Larry was a loving man, known by all for his extreme generosity and his sense of humor and wit.  Laughing and joking around was very important to him, and he used his humor to bring a smile to your face and also to teach many important life lessons.   It’s amazing how someone who did not enjoy the teaching profession had so much to teach and share with the ones he loved and cared about.  Larry found much joy and happiness in his eight grandchildren:  Marcus, Aaron, Tad, Joshua, Shayna, Tyler, Jacob, and Luke Edward.  He spent many hours teaching them all to fish and enjoy the outdoors and coaching them in both their athletic interests and more importantly in the lessons of life.  We will forever miss our beloved fisherman and our “April Fool”.

James D. Berry III

James D. “JD” Berry III, 69, of 21139 Cashup Rd., Pleasantville, died at 6:20 a.m. Friday, Nov. 16, 2007, at his residence.  Born Aug. 20, 1938, in Oil City, he was the son of the late James D. Berry, Jr., and Helen Holst Berry.  He was a graduate of the Hill School in Pottstown and earned a degree in agriculture from Penn State.

Mr. Berry was a veteran of the Vietnam Conflict.   He served in the U. S. Navy as a naval pilot and flight instructor for six years.  He served in Europe, Pensacola, Fla., and Mississippi before being honorably discharged.  Mr. Berry was an accomplished businessman.  In 1961 he was admitted as a partner to the family’s farming venture known as Windy Hill Farms and was a principal in the operation of Windy Hill Machine, Professional Aviation Services, Hogan’s Palace and The Drake Mall, all of Titusville.

He retired as an executive vice president of Quaker State Oil Corporation on Aug. 1, 1993, with 26 years of diligent and faithful service.  He was also the chairman and C. E. O. of the Valley Camp Coal Company.  Perhaps his sterling achievement and chief identity was associated with the Busted Flush Sporting Clays facility in Titusville, which he birthed, owned and operated for the past 17 years.

Mr. Berry was a member of the Pennsylvania Oil & Gas Association, National Sporting Clays Association, North American Fishing Club, Titusville Elks Lodge # 264, and the Moose Club.  He was an avid outdoorsman whose passion was hunting for woodcock and grouse over the dog.  He also fished Lake Erie extensively for perch and walleye, operating out of the Conneaut Harbor in Ohio.

Surviving are two children, James D. Berry IV and his wife Emily of Loveland, Ohio, and Ann Kosche and her husband Steve of Collierville, Tenn.; five grandchildren, Michael J. Berry, Richard J. Berry, Laura D. Berry, Matthew S. Kosche and David J. Kosche; one sister, Linda Steinbuhler and her husband David of Titusville; and numerous nieces and nephews.  Mr. Berry was preceded in death by a brother, Michael T. Berry.

A memorial service will be conducted with full military honors and rites at the Busted Flush (5-Stand Field) at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7.  Those attending are asked to dress appropriately for the weather conditions.  Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society and/or the Salvation Army.  Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home, 303 N. Washington St., Titusville.
